Limited Scope Retainers

Support when you need us the most

At Doucet Family Law, we believe in facilitating access to justice. We are proud to offer limited scope retainers to help ensure our professional services are available when you need us the most in cases where unbundling services is appropriate. A limited scope retainer allows you to hire our team for specific aspects of your case, so that you can get legal advice and services on a narrow issue or procedure without the cost of full-service representation.

While it is ideal to have a lawyer involved in all aspects of your separation, some people cannot afford this type of full-scope retainer. A limited scope retainer is a flexible option that can be tailored to your needs, allowing you to spend legal fees where it counts, at key junctures in your case. No matter the area of family law with which you require assistance, our family lawyers can offer focused advice and information to help you make informed decisions in your family law matter.

Common legal services we may perform under a limited scope retainer include:

  • Advising on procedure
  • Advising on substantive legal rights and obligations
  • Assisting with creating a legal strategy
  • Assisting with examinations for discovery, also known as oral questioning
  • Assisting with child support and spousal support negotiations
  • Assisting with settlement conferences and trial management conferences
  • Performing legal research and analysis on narrow issues
  • Serving and filing materials
  • Preparing clients for an investigation by the Office of the Children’s Lawyer, or a Section 30 Parenting Assessment
  • Preparing clients for self-representation in court
  • Coaching on trial techniques
  • Appearing in specific court proceedings such as a motion, settlement conference, or trial management conference
  • Reviewing court documents such as motions, affidavits, and settlement offers
  • Drafting critical items like court applications, conference briefs, support agreements, and more
  • Navigating Case Center, the court’s online platform that provides a means of accessing materials during a hearing.
